A businessman from the central region built a secret real estate empire over the years. The man, who specialized in the field of real estate, purchased several luxury apartments in Italy over the years, and ironically he did so with the knowledge of his wife, when he presented her with documents about the properties he wanted to purchase and in which her name appeared.
Only one thing the businessman did not bother to tell his wife: he registered all the properties he purchased in the name of his elderly mother.
When the couple was about to divorce and the wife demanded to divide the assets equally with the husband, he claimed that all the transactions did not go through and that in the end the apartments were not purchased.
"Only as a result of a strenuous investigation were we able to locate the assets abroad that were registered in the mother's name," says private investigator Uri Ya'akov, who accompanied the woman. "As a result, we were able to assist her in the divorce proceedings from the husband and receive half of the value of the joint property, which amounted to many millions."
The investigation revealed the husband's secret life
The couple from the central region were married for two decades and had three children.
The husband was very active in the real estate market and his wife worked as a clerk for one of the prominent lawyers. Along the way, the wife trusted the husband a lot and gave him the reins in everything related to the management of financial affairs.
Over time, the wife noticed that her husband was often absent from home. According to the wife, the husband used to disappear for whole days and not answer the phones. Alternatively, when he had already answered his wife, he spoke briefly, claiming that he was busy with his business, was in between meetings and could not talk to her.
At some point, the wife began to suspect that the husband was having an affair overseas and decided to contact a private investigator to investigate what the husband was up to "The woman asked me to check what was going on with her husband, so I sent a team to Italy to track down the husband and check what he was doing at the same time as running his business."
The husband, by the way, did not bother to hide his address in Italy from his wife, but he certainly hid the affair he was having with another woman abroad. He
sleeps with her and goes to work from there."
The investigation, which was conducted by a team of Israeli investigators alongside an Italian investigator, was complex. "Initiating an investigation abroad is always more complicated, but as we do in Israel, in this investigation as well we followed intensively the apartment where the husband lived and after his actions".
The elderly mother did not know that properties were registered in her name
after the revelation of the affair that the husband had outside the marriage, the investigators tried to locate the properties he had purchased overseas.
It turned out that over the years the husband had purchased three expensive apartments in Italy - the value of each of them was about three to four million shekels.
He registered the apartments, as mentioned, in his mother's name.
The woman was sure that the husband had purchased the apartments, but did not know where he hid them.
"I tried to understand in whose name he could have registered the properties, his sister's name or his mother's name," says Yaakov.
"After the woman gave us the details of her mother-in-law, we started uncovering all the loot."
It turned out that the mother, in her eighties, did not know about the properties registered in her name at all.
"When we interrogated her under cover, she said she lived in Israel and claimed she had no assets abroad."
The discovery of the assets through the private investigation caused a change in the woman's legal situation and as a result the husband and wife reached a divorce agreement in which the assets were divided equally between them.
"The woman was awarded millions of shekels and will be able to start a new path," concludes Yaakov.
