More child benefit and tax relief - this is how Finance Minister Christian Lindner wants to help citizens in the current situation.
Berlin - In view of the gas crisis and the enormous rate of inflation as a result of the Ukraine war and the corona pandemic, Finance Minister Christian Lindner has now also made suggestions as to how the burden on citizens can be relieved.
FDP leader Lindner is aiming for a tax cut and higher child benefits.
The FDP politician announced this on Wednesday in Berlin.
He will "make a proposal to increase the basic allowance," said Lindner.
This is the income up to which no tax has to be paid as a subsistence level.
Against inflation: Lindner plans new income tax rate
In addition to an increase in child benefit, he will also propose a new income tax rate that takes inflation into account.
"So that people are no longer burdened, even though they actually have a loss of purchasing power."
The basic allowance was increased by EUR 363 retrospectively to January 1 a few weeks ago and is now EUR 10,347 per year.
The child benefit is currently 219 euros per month for the first and second child.
For the third child, families receive 225 euros, from the 4th child the child benefit is 250 euros per month.
The extent to which these proposals would be implemented must be shown by opinion-forming within the federal government over the next few weeks.
The traffic light parties are currently outdoing each other with different proposals for relief.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced new relief for tenants just a few days ago.
