Oil and gas exploitation in Congo puts endangered gorillas at risk

The Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is bidding to put up for auction the permits to drill the oil and gas blocks found within the Virunga National Park, which is a sanctuary for endangered gorillas.

While activists are calling for these plans to be stopped, the government says this will allow the country to lift itself out of poverty.
