The United Nations stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty and integrity of Iraqi territory, against the background of the aggression launched by the Turkish regime on the Dohuk Governorate in northern Iraq, which led to the death of nine Iraqis and the wounding of 23 others.
Russia Today channel quoted Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, as saying today during a press conference: "We stress the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq, and that any measures that undermine it will raise our concerns."
For her part, Jenin Hennis-Plasschaert, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), stressed that the bombing demonstrates a shocking disregard for the lives of civilians and the internationally accepted standards of international humanitarian law and international human rights law that seek to protect civilians.
Yesterday, the UN Security Council strongly condemned the bombing of the Dohuk governorate in northern Iraq on the 20th of this month, which led to the death of nine Iraqis and the wounding of more than 23 others.
Iraq also strongly condemned this aggression, and its Foreign Ministry summoned the ambassador of the Turkish regime in the country and handed him a strongly worded protest note, while angry demonstrators tried to storm the Turkish consulate in Baghdad.
