The Heiner-Janik-Haus in Oberschleißheim is constantly on the move and moves with the times.

Now it is to be changed to a youth education campus.

District

– The Heiner-Janik-Haus in Oberschleißheim has reinvented itself several times since 2013 and has thus always responded to drastic social changes.

However, the doors will remain wide open for disadvantaged children and young people in the future: the Heiner-Janik-Haus is currently being transformed from a youth meeting place with international guests and the future campus for refugees into a youth education campus.

Practice classes for young people

When the exchange with European and international groups ceased due to the pandemic, head Stefan Stoll and his team of educators and craftsmen reacted with a new offer: Access to suitable internships, especially for middle school students, was made more difficult due to the pandemic.

Together with the state education authority and the employment agency, the youth center has been offering practical classes for young people at secondary schools and support centers ever since.

They work for a week in different workshops, have positive experiences through active participation, learn more about themselves and their talents and can orientate themselves professionally.

The educators focus on self-awareness and encounters.

Subsidy from the district office for student internships

The district committee endorsed the new concept: the district subsidized the student internship “Practical Week Compact” for three years with an annual amount of 223,315 euros.

The administration and district youth council hope that they can refinance half of the costs with subsidies and grants from foundations and companies.

The need for space has increased

With the students in the seventh and eighth grades, however, the need for space has also increased.

At the same time, the approval for the container facility, which was first built to train refugees, expires in 2024.

The interns are currently working in various workshops.

The wooden pavilion is a ray of hope: The district is building this movable building in 2024 for the state garden show in Kirchheim.

The timber construction on the site of the Heiner-Janik-Haus will then continue to be used.

And something else is changing: Until 2009, the district youth association operated the house between Schleißheim airfield and the Würm Canal as a self-catering house with 40 beds and a campsite.

However, the purchase and the preparation of the food would have overwhelmed the supervisors, who also provided the program.

The use of food was not very sustainable because each group bought new things, according to the Heiner-Janik-Haus.

Soon a seminar house with full board

Now the youth meeting place is being converted into a seminar house with full catering.

Full board will be offered to all guests in the future.

The district committee approved a housekeeping position and a kitchen help - on the basis of a voluntary social or ecological year.

In a small teaching kitchen, however, self-sufficiency should continue to be possible.

Exchanges and partnerships with Poland, Kyrgyzstan and Israel are reviving.

Because contacts with Belarus and Russia are suspended, new countries have to be explored: trips to Georgia and Finland are planned.
