The Haifa District Attorney's Office and the North District Attorney's Office filed today (Thursday) in the Haifa District Court an indictment against Rani Piran (28), a resident of Acre, for committing a terrorist act of serious injury with aggravated intent, a racially motivated riot, arson and other offenses during the "Guardian of the Walls" operation.

According to the indictment, filed by attorneys Inbal Branson and Yair Goichman from the Haifa District Attorney's Office and attorney Ohad Cohen from the North District Attorney's Office, the accused took part in the wave of riots that took place in the city of Acre, during which he threw stones at police forces and buildings, participated in setting fire to the "Uri Buri" restaurant In Old Acre, he blocked a road with a garbage can, and even entered a clothing store where products were sold and burned them with other rioters who were there.

All the acts were carried out with a nationalist - ideological motive.

On 12.5.21 in the evening hours, the rioters, including the accused, stood along the street in Acre and when they recognized a car driven by a Jew, they fired at him and hit him in different places.

In his attempt to escape from the rioters, the Jewish driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a wall, at this point, fearing for his life, the Jewish driver got out of the vehicle to flee the scene, and was brutally attacked with iron rods, clubs, various objects and stones that were thrown at him.

The complainant was knocked to the floor and beaten with sticks and stones.

The prosecutor's office filed an indictment against three additional defendants in this assault incident in June 2021.

The indictment attributes to Piran the crimes of a terrorist act of serious injury with aggravated intent, a terrorist act of serious injury under aggravated circumstances, arson, a riot resulting in damage with a motive of racism, trespassing to commit a crime with a motive of racism, malicious damage with a motive of racism, malicious damage, road endangerment and boating lanes, obstructing a police officer under aggravated circumstances (several cases), recklessness and negligence as well as rioting.

Mor Janashvili, who was wounded by a wall guard in Acre, says that "my health is slowly improving after rehabilitation in the Levinstein home, but my soul needs more time. As far as I'm concerned, the terrorist and his family will be deported from the country, but unfortunately in the legal system, this will not happen. The situation is unbearable. I see them as continuing on their own ".

Attorney Haim Bleicher from the Honnu organization: "Every time it is a shocking experience to look anew at the evil that perpetrated lynching of Jews and Moors. There is something encouraging in the fact that one of the dozens of terrorists who participated in the lynching was caught and an indictment was filed against him. The feeling that another terrorist is brought in and an indictment is filed against him is good." .

Bleicher added: "The way to catch the rest of the terrorists is through tough investigations against the suspects. After a year in which I accompanied a lot of discussions, the prosecutor's office demands harsh punishments, but the courts ease the punishment. Because there are no legal precedents, the justice system goes easy on the accused."
