During a traffic check, the police caught a thief in Markt Schwaben.

The criminal had cleared out a shop in Austria the day before.

Markt Schwaben – The Erdinger investigators had the right instincts during a traffic check at the Markt Schwaben end of town.

When the civilian officials wanted to check the two occupants of a car with foreign license plates on Tuesday evening, the two roared away - because they had loaded a lot of stolen goods.

The police found the car and driver a short time later in the green area of a company courtyard in Markt Schwaben.

The passenger had fled.

In the vehicle, officers found four large plastic bags filled with branded clothes with the original tags attached.

Owner will get goods back soon

As the Poinger police found out, the goods came from a fashion shop in Egg/Vorarlberg in Austria, where the previous night there had been a break-in.

There, the thieves had stolen goods with a sales value of around 60,000 euros.

The driver, a 42-year-old Croatian, was taken to the Stadelheim prison and will soon be handed over to the Austrian authorities. The search for the passenger continues.

"The shopkeeper is overjoyed," reports the Poinger police and adds: "Thus his summer business is not in danger." A return of the goods will be arranged after approval by the Austrian public prosecutor's office.
