The key witness in the mask affair outraged the MPs with her appearance.

For many helpers during the pandemic, this is a slap in the face, comments Christian Deutschländer.

Munich – The clownesque masquerade of the key witness Tandler in the state parliament is not funny, but shocking.

Earned millions with hardship, bartered masks for moon prices, but don't have the guts to stand up for them - that's undignified.

It is also another slap in the face for those in the country who have alleviated suffering during the pandemic, helped voluntarily or have suffered severe losses or loss of livelihood themselves.

Commentary on the mask affair: Moral deficits cannot be punished

At the same time, the investigative committee stands naked in front of the hooded witness.

Again.

The body is intended to uncover legal misconduct in the mask business with the state, by parliamentarians.

Moral deficits, even if greed stinks to high heaven, cannot be punished by the committee.

Tandler shuns the public eye, but need not fear the U-Committee.

Just like MP Alfred Sauter, one of the masterminds of this and other deals, need not tremble: he acted in a legally correct manner.

This is not God-given, but has reasons: the legislature was sloppy.

The Bundestag left barn door-sized loopholes in the laws against bribery of MPs.

Despite the relevant history, the state parliament has long allowed itself to have lax rules of conduct, and there are still problems with transparency.

Incidentally, it was the CSU that watched the messes, the mixing of mandate and business, for many years.

It remains to be seen whether parliaments and the party have honestly learned from this.
