Ferrari kept three LaFerrari prototypes instead of scrapping them.

These will go under the hammer in August in the US.

On the way to being ready for series production, cars go through a wide variety of development phases.

Manufacturers keep building new prototypes for testing purposes, which unfortunately are then scrapped.

However, some development vehicles escaped this fate, such as three vehicles built during the development of the Ferrari LaFerrari.

These will be auctioned by Mecum Auctions in Moneterey in mid-August.

It is not known why Ferrari did not scrap the three prototypes.

However, the portal

Carbuzz

suspects that it has to do with the fact that the LaFerrari is a turning point in the long history of the Italian sports car manufacturer.

After all, it is the first vehicle with a hybrid drive.

This prototype Ferrari LaFerrai will be auctioned in August in Monterey.

Ferrari LaFerrari: Prototypes go under the hammer

Each car represented a different phase of the LaFerrari's three-year development program and was in service from 2011-2012.

The First-Phase Emissions Development Car was still based on the platform of the 458 Italia.

Instead of the 6.3-liter V12, a 6.0-liter V12 naturally aspirated engine was installed in this prototype.

It has all the hybrid components it needs for its purposes.

Internally referred to as the F150 Muletto M4, the car was built to test all emission parameters.

However, the prototype painted matt black does not get road approval, but there is a Ferrari Classiche certification for it.

It is the second time the car has changed hands this year, having been sold by RM Sotheby's earlier this year.

Ferrari LaFerrari: Prototypes could make a lot of money

The second prototype was used by Ferrari between March 2012 and August 2013 to optimize the various mechanical systems in order to bring the vehicle to series production.

Although the car looks more like a 458, it is already on a pre-production platform based on the final layout.

The F150 Mulotipo MP1 is powered by a bored 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine.

All hybrid components and a prototype version of the HY-KERS hybrid system have already been installed.

The prototype covered 22,500 miles (approx. 36,210 km) during the test drives.

The third vehicle in the group was the last pre-production vehicle that Ferrari built from the LaFerrari.

Visually and technically, the F150 Prototipe Preseries PS1 is identical to the final sports car.

This also applies to the active aerodynamics and the offset 19-inch alloy wheels at the front and 20-inch wheels at the rear.

The speedometer only shows 10,000 miles (approx. 16,093 km).

If you consider that a LaFerrari can fetch up to 8.3 million euros at auction, you can guess how much money the rare prototypes could be auctioned for.

If you don't have enough change, you can simply rebuild the sports car, as a hobbyist from South Africa did.

Alternatively, the LaFerrari can also be made out of snow.
