On the occasion of the newspaper's birthday - the publisher of "Israel Hayom", Dr. Miriam Adelson, in a special column • When my late beloved husband Sheldon and I founded the newspaper together, we wanted to challenge outdated thinking • The immediate success of the newspaper was decisive proof of its necessity • The feeling of being missed The only thing left in my heart is that Sheldon didn't get to see his vision bear fruit today

Fifteen is a significant number.

In gematria it is one of the names of God.

In the Hebrew calendar it is a date on which holidays and holidays occur.

In the years of a person's life, this is the exciting seam between childhood and adulthood: an energetic age, with a lot of playfulness and a twinkle in the eyes.

Perhaps that is why this anniversary of "Israel Today" arouses in me mixed feelings of pride and gratitude for what has already been achieved, and excitement and anticipation of what the future holds.

We have long passed the foundation years of the newspaper as a broadener of opinion and a leader of change - and the ambition is to continue forward and further.

When my late beloved husband Sheldon and I founded the newspaper together, we applied the same logic that has always accompanied us, both in business and in charity, and that is: to challenge outdated thinking and provide a valuable product that has never been seen before.

Until that day, and for decades, the Israeli media was a monopoly, and it wrote uniform content and style.

The "correct" politicians were wrapped in cotton wool, while news that did not agree with conventional thinking was ignored, or condemned to be thrown into the back pages of the newspaper.

The reporters galloped in one direction, like horses harnessed to wagons: tamed, with their eyes half covered so they wouldn't stray from their path.

Lack of knowledge about developments that may be fatal to the nation - is not a positive thing.

And so is the absence of faith and national pride.

Out of concern for Israel - for its image and international status - we decided to do everything we could to correct this impossible situation.

The result was "Israel Today" - and the immediate success of the newspaper was decisive proof of its necessity.

It is a communication tool that reflects the true and prevailing Israeli mindset: patriotic, optimistic, unapologetically embracing Zionism as having Jewish and democratic principles, and demanding that the elected leadership be subject to public criticism, and in an equal manner, because only in this way can a free opinion be formed and the best path for the state

It is not for nothing that the Star of David is proudly and regularly emblazoned on our front page!

It was beautifully described by one of the subscribers who told me: "Reading 'Israel Today' is feeling that it's fun to be Israeli."

Like the recorder of the state's history, the newspaper "Israel Hayom" covered the major events in the life of the nation in an in-depth manner and faithful to the source.

Among them we can mention the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem, and the American recognition of Israel's sovereignty in the Golan. It is not for nothing that President Trump provided Israel Hayom with a record number of interviews. But we wrote not only out of pride. The house, because the very controversy is news as much as the way in which it finds a solution.

And how much we have grown!

The "Israel Hayom" group now includes "Mekor Rishon" and the printing house in Bat Yam;

And in our digital version news are translated into English in a way that expands the influence of the newspaper on the international level.

The only sense of loss that remains in my heart is that Sheldon did not get to see his vision bear fruit today.

And yet, the consolation is that from the distribution of the newspaper at dawn until the closing of the next page at the end of that day, his legacy is alive and well on every page of the newspaper that he loved so much.
