Feldafing - As reported by the Bavarian Palace Department, Feldafing Park and Roseninsel will remain closed to visitors until further notice due to the extensive storm damage.

The entire extent of the storm damage is currently being recorded by the employees of the competence center for tree management in southern Bavaria of the Bavarian Palace Administration;

the trees bordering the paths are checked for traffic safety.

At the same time, the employees of the Feldafing Park have already started the first clean-up work. The processing of the storm damage with heavy equipment starts today.

First, the access route for the fire brigade to Roseninsel will be cleared and traffic safety will be restored on Roseninsel.

The consequences of the storm on the park paths are then gradually removed.

Although additional employees could be recruited, the clean-up work will take a long time.

The Roseninsel can probably be reopened in the course of the next week, when most of the paths in Park Feldafing will be accessible again.

It is strongly discouraged to enter the park despite the barriers in place.

Further information about the rose island and the accessibility of the island and the Park Feldafing is available at www.schloesser.bayern.de/deutsch/schloss/objects/feldafin.htm.

King Maximilian II had two masterpieces of garden art created, the Roseninsel and the Park Feldafing.

According to the plans of the garden artist Peter Joseph Lenné, a fragrant rose paradise was created on the former fishing island of Wörth, which later became a favorite place of Ludwig II.

Here he met, among others, Empress Elisabeth of Austria, the Russian Tsarina Maria Alexandrovna and Richard Wagner.

The small island villa, the so-called casino, which is well worth seeing, can be visited with guided tours and is a popular place for weddings.

Opposite the Roseninsel is the Park Feldafing with its magnificent views of the landscape framed by old oaks and beeches with Lake Starnberg and the mountain range of the Alps as a picturesque backdrop.

Maximilian II planned a summer palace here, but his early death in March 1864 prevented its execution.
