It was (almost) nothing more.

The Verdi strike paralyzed Lufthansa at Munich Airport on Wednesday.

In the end, the stranded passengers suffered.

Munich – Long queues at the counters, tired passengers waiting on the ground and employees trying to make the best of the situation.

The Verdi union has largely paralyzed Lufthansa flight operations with a warning strike by ground staff.

The strike seems to have served its purpose – maximum attention thanks to maximum hassle.

However, it was a bitter day for Lufthansa.

Around 330 flights had to be canceled in Munich alone.

42,000 passengers were affected.

A look at the display board in Terminal 2 yesterday showed that not many machines take off here.

Most of the connections were marked "Cancelled".

There are fewer passengers than usual - many were informed in advance about the canceled flights and didn't even come.

Some did it differently and tried to get an alternative flight on the spot.

Munich Airport became the terminus: family reports of chaos situation

The failures hit the hardest, however, for those for whom Munich should actually only be a stopover on a longer journey.

For example, the Kuchenbecker family from Rostock: “We flew back from Mallorca and were 90 minutes late.

Then our connecting flight to Hamburg was already gone,” says Mama Doren.

The family spent the night in a hotel, booked on their own.

But without a suitcase.

Because the luggage is gone.

Fits the picture: in the past few weeks there have been thousands of problems with missing suitcases.

Apparently the airport couldn't cope with the upswing after Corona.

And now the strike...

Munich Airport: Numerous passengers stranded

The cake Beckers reacted with gallows humor - and annoyed.

Doren says: "No one really felt responsible for us, it was very opaque." Especially with children, it's exhausting.

The holiday mood: gone quickly.

The mood at the counters was already bad on Tuesday evening when the first cancellations were made.

Marta Maciejewska was also affected.

Yesterday she waited on the floor of Terminal 2 with her son Igor and her dog Kiro to see what happens next.

Her husband was meanwhile looking for a suitcase.

From Catania, the family flew to Munich on Tuesday, it should go on to Bremen.

Instead, they were stranded in Munich and are now trying to rebook on a train.

Others were hit even harder - for example a couple who wanted to go from Norway to New Zealand and are now stuck in Munich.

Some of the passengers understand the strike in principle – but not at all for the timing.
