The crisis continues: the court in Russia did not reject the claims against the Jewish Agency Israel today

The authorities in Moscow scheduled another hearing for August 19 on the question of whether to stop the activities of the Jewish organization in the country • In Israel they believe that the Russian decision is driven by political considerations

The court in Moscow today (Thursday) accepted the request of the Russian Ministry of Justice and determined that a trial will be opened against the Jewish Agency on suspicion of collecting information on Russian citizens in violation of the law.

The first hearing in the trial will be held on August 19.

The meaning of the decision is that for now the crisis with Russia continues, although the agency's activities in the country will not be stopped immediately and there is time left to reach an understanding with the Kremlin on the issue.

In Israel, they estimated in advance that in any case the court would not outright reject the request of the Russian Ministry of Justice, but the optimistic scenario spoke of the judge sending the parties to mediation.

The working assumption in Jerusalem is that the decision was not made in the court itself, but according to an order from above by political officials in Moscow.

Following the determination of the trial, the legal advisor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs staying in Moscow is expected to meet with his Russian counterpart.

Only yesterday evening, after a significant delay, the Russians approved a delegation of Israeli lawyers and diplomats to go to Moscow to try to help resolve the crisis.

Originally, the delegation was supposed to fly already on Sunday, but the Russian Foreign Ministry delayed the issuance of its visas.
