The US economy contracted again in the second quarter, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reported Thursday.

Gross domestic product (GDP), a powerful gauge of economic activity, fell 0.9% on an annualized basis from April to June.

That reduction marks a key symbolic threshold for the most widely used, though unofficial, definition of a recession as two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth.
