A long-desired improvement is coming: Freising's tactile guidance system is re-milled

The tactile guidance system in Freising is being sharpened in the truest sense of the word.

The planning committee of the city of Freising launched two more projects on Wednesday.

In both cases it is about improvements - on the one hand for accessibility, on the other hand for the quality of stay and the climate.

The improvement

After the completion of the first three construction phases in the lower old town, it quickly became clear that what the concept for the redesign of the city center had envisaged in terms of accessibility was not the yellow of the egg.

Visually impaired people in particular had repeatedly complained that the tactile guidance system was inadequate: the areas without guidance were too long, finding the tactile edge was difficult, and in some sections not deep enough, and recognizing public buildings and entrances was difficult (we have reported several times).

The topic, which even made it into the BR satirical magazine "quer", was then discussed in three round tables with all those affected and involved.

And a solution was worked out which, following the approval of the planning committee on Wednesday, should be implemented before the end of this year: the tactile edge on the north side of the main street is to be re-milled, and attention and direction fields are to be added through additional milling.

Milling will also be carried out in those areas where the redesign of the city center has not yet been completed or is pending.

Green downtown

And then there was the issue of greenery in the inner city: according to the factual report on this item on the agenda, the wandering trees in their large, red-clad pots should “step by step give way to permanent, high-quality mobile greening elements with trees and bushes”.

And this is where the React-EU funding program comes into play, for which the city of Freising was selected as one of 37 municipalities in Bavaria (we reported).

In order to obtain "start-up financing" for a first part of the new greening, one project from the approved package of measures - namely the street furniture for the city center - will be deleted and replaced with the new measure "Greening of the city centre".

The government of Upper Bavaria had seen this extension of the package of measures at the expense of the promotion of inner city furniture as positive.

And so the members of the planning committee found it easy to agree to the resolution proposed by the administration in the form presented.
