Bathing duck becomes a Facebook star: That's her story

Probably the biggest duck in the whole district is yellow and lives in Olching.

And now she's a celebrity too.

Olching / Fürstenfeldbruck – When the huge bathing animal recently traveled through the district on a car roof, it promptly caused a stir.

The internet community had a great time.

Now the riddle of the duck is solved.

That's how it started

One beautiful summer's day, an oversized, bright yellow rubber duck, strapped to a car, rolls through the middle of Fürstenfeldbruck.

Passers-by are surprised, cell phones are pulled out - and a photo ends up on the Facebook page of the Fürstenfeldbrucker Tagblatt.

In the appearance of the local newspaper in the online network, the duck quickly becomes a hit.

Everyone just finds them funny, some post photos of huge bathing animals, and all sorts of jokes are doing the rounds.

And somehow everyone agrees: this duck is cool.

But who owns this thing?

The owner

Florian Fischer laughs.

It was his duck that rolled through Bruck on the car roof – and for a change.

Because the duck is actually stationary in Olching at home.

During the summer she always stays pumped up, mostly sitting on the roof of a garage on the Amper.

"The duck has a decent volume, the head alone is huge," says the 33-year-old with a laugh.

It takes at least half an hour to fully inflate the animal.

In Olching, the bathing animal is definitely a number.

"Children are happy when they come around the corner and see the duck," says Fischer, who plays for SC Olching as long as he has time with his family (two children) and a job.

The goal of the journey

But why did the duck travel?

The goal that day was an Ampertour starting in Schöngeising, says Fischer.

So they would have figured out how to transport the duck there without deflating - and having to inflate it again.

Finally, the solution was found: The floating base was strapped to the car roof with two tension belts in a criss-cross pattern, says the self-employed chimney sweep.

The method has proven itself: everything held up – the tour on the Amper took place.

The history

But how do you even get such a duck?

In 2018 he was on a European tour with his wife and son, says Florian Fischer.

At a campsite in Corsica, a neighbor offered the duck for sale.

"It was just too big for him." However, nobody showed any interest in the bathing island and when the neighbor had to leave, he simply gave it to Florian Fischer.

He took her home to Olching.

"Now she's become our Amper duck."

Currently the duck is not on the garage and not on the Amper either.

Children would have asked what's going on, says Fischer.

Unfortunately the duck got a hole on the Ampertour, probably from a branch.

"We have to fix them now."
