Ralf Moeller, star in the Hollywood film "Gladiator", warns of the dangers of bathing.

From his time as a swimming champion he knows: Accidents don't always happen “like we know from the movies”.

Munich – The weather does what it wants.

From downpours to heat waves, on sunny days quite a few people head to the lakes or to the outdoor pools in the republic.

But if you step into the cool water without being able to swim properly, you are taking an extreme risk.

Gladiator star Ralf Moeller, who was a swimming champion before his media career, urgently appeals not to ignore the dangers of swimming fun.

Even a few moments of inattention could have deadly consequences.

Ralf Moeller warns: children often "gone all at once"

Moeller, who is a qualified swimming champion and instructor, urges parents not to take their eyes off their children for a second if they are not yet able to swim safely.

"If you pick up the phone or if you have a conversation: That can be silent death," the film star told the German Press Agency.

"They don't always call out - as we know it from the films - 'Help, help, help!'".

Instead, small children are often “gone all at once”.

That goes very quickly.

Ex-swimming champion Ralf Moeller is committed to early swimming training: "Crawling a dog is not enough"

This year, too, there have already been several deaths in swimming accidents in Germany.

Moeller emphasizes how important it is to teach children how to swim properly at an early age instead of "dog crawl" and to familiarize them with the water.

Because even the lifeguard cannot be the only safeguard, especially on busy days.

“You can hardly see any water at times.

You only see heads,” the actor recalls when he was a swimming champion.
