Iranian border guards and Afghan Taliban exchanged fire on Sunday at the common border, the two countries announced, the Taliban reporting the death of one of their own.

” in Hirmand County in the province of Sistan-Baluchistan (southeast), said Meysam Barazandeh, the governor of the region quoted by Iranian news agency Fars.

According to Tasnim news agency, Taliban forces fired on houses in the border village of Dust Mohammad in Hirmand.
On the other side of the border, the authorities of the province of Nimroz, in the south-west of Afghanistan, reported the death of a member of the security forces of the Taliban and another injured.

Iran, like many other countries, has so far failed to recognize the new government formed by the Taliban since they seized power in August 2021 after the hasty withdrawal of foreign forces.
