A four-year break is enough: high time for dirndl jumping at Lautersee, thought those in charge of the Mittenwald water rescue service.

Locals and guests were once again able to look forward to a very special fashion show.

Thunderstorms and rain couldn't spoil the atmosphere.

Mittenwald

- Ralf Obst, deputy chairman of the water rescue service, regularly looks at the weather radar.

"It'll be fine," he encourages his team.

And indeed the sun comes out.

Many onlookers and participants arrive with a little delay.

The first Steckerlfisch are also almost ready – personally prepared by the chef.

"I'll grill it myself, I won't let anyone else do it," says Chairman Robert Müller, laughing.

In the end about 200 mackerel are sold.

The smell of fried sausages also rises.

Tom Barton twists and turns them like a pro.

While the visitors enjoy the first half, the first jumpers register with Lucy.

Heidi Reiser-Filser from the Gwandstub'n of the same name will be responsible for the dirndl clothing.

Depending on the needs, she gives the male pictures small or large breasts made of balloons.

It's a blast until all 30 participants are outfitted.

Half are from Mittenwald, the other holidaymakers from neighboring Tyrol.

Finally Robert Müller can open the Dirndl jumping.

"We're glad that the weather gods are playing along, because it didn't look good in the morning." Then he hands the microphone over to his sister and presenter Heidi Reiser-Filser.

She immediately gives the brave jumpers an important tip: “The Dirndl pulls you down a bit.

So pedal right away so you can get back up.”

Everyone came up with something for the performance from the almost five meter high ramp into the 21 degree warm water.

From spins to backflips to cartwheels and nose-holding ass bombs, from singles to triples to even a jump for peace by two Australians, it's all on offer to the applauding audience.

Rafael Pohl from Mittenwald even encourages the spectators on the opposite bank of the lake to do a La Ola wave before he gives his performance.

During the jumps, the dirndl skirts air, and the balloon breasts leave the necklines or even burst when diving.

Hands on: Heidi Filser-Reiser personally takes care of the equipment for the participants.

Of course, the lifeguard ensures safety.

Heinrich Hartmann and Dominic Bäcker are also on rescue boards.

But everything is going well - no incidents or injuries.

Last but not least, presenter Heidi and her assistant Lucy, escorted by two Grainau water guards and a young boy, also jump into the cool, emerald-green water.

It is not easy for the jury to determine the order.

Ole Graf from Mittenwald, who threw his brother off the ramp and into the water before his own jump, took first place.

But it's not about victory or defeat anyway.

There is a prize for everyone - optionally sunglasses, towels, hand-knitted hats, vouchers and much more.

"Great solidarity of the Mittenwald business people," says participant Rafael Pohl in somewhat unorthodox words.

As soon as the jumping is over, there's a short violent shower from above.

He can't spoil the mood.

Andrea & Michael - Andrea Diepold from Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Michael Kriner from Leutasch - take care of the music.

There's a lot of laughing, drinking and eating to catch up on hits, folk music and jokes.

From 3 p.m. there will be sweets from the water rescue ladies.

"We can't just swim, we can also bake," jokes Insa Wasserberg, who, together with Evi Boxleitner, sells food for immediate consumption and to take away.

16 water guards from all over Bavaria are on duty.

Those with the longest journey come from Selb and Schönwald.

Everyone is busy looking after the approximately 500 guests.

Robert Müller's conclusion: "Everything is going well, we're happy about that and it motivates us to do it again."
