So far there have been hardly any wind turbines in south-eastern Upper Bavaria - this is likely to change now on the initiative of the industry.

The goal is up to 40 wind turbines.

Munich/Burghausen – So far there has been a largely lull in wind power in south-eastern Upper Bavaria.

In some districts there is not a single wind turbine.

That is about to change: on the initiative of Bavarian companies in the chemical triangle, the construction of an entire wind farm in the state forest between Altötting and Burghausen is to be examined.

The goal is up to 40 wind turbines, our newspaper was confirmed by business circles.

They should generate up to 500 gigawatt hours of power per year - that would be ten percent of the electricity consumption of the companies in the chemical triangle.

The chemical industry is a power guzzler - the companies in the chemical triangle alone consume 0.5 percent of all German electricity every year.

Wind turbines in south-east Upper Bavaria: Apparently, Altötting is also rethinking

The construction of wind turbines was recently discussed in public for the first time in the Altötting district committee.

In Altötting there is not a single wind turbine so far, the local district administrator Erwin Schneider (CSU) made no secret of his dislike in the past and was happy to say the bon mot that Altötting is just "not a windy district".

But now it's being rethought.

Initial talks are being held with developers and planners about initiating wind measurements.

So far, planning region 18, which includes the districts of Altötting, Mühldorf, Traunstein, Berchtesgadener Land and the city and district of Rosenheim, has been defined almost everywhere as an exclusion zone for wind power.

There is no getting around a reassessment, says the spokesman for the Altötting district office, Robert Müller.

This is the task of the Regional Planning Association (RPV) of Southeast Upper Bavaria, which is currently chaired by the Altötting district administrator.

District Administrator Schneider announced at the meeting that the legal planning basis for wind power would be created "this year".

In Munich and Upper Bavaria even 400 new wind turbines should be possible

The Altötting planning association is not alone: planning associations everywhere are currently trying to find a new direction.

In the RPV Munich and Upper Bavaria, the construction of up to 400 wind turbines is even theoretically possible (we reported).

Of course, there shouldn't be that many in south-eastern Upper Bavaria.

It is unlikely that the giants of the chemical industry - Wacker Chemie, OMV, Linde - would invest directly in wind power, as Bernhard Langhammer from the umbrella organization ChemDelta Bavaria says.

You leave that to experienced investors, possibly also to the citizenry.

However, the industry is available as a buyer.

The electricity price must be competitive.
