The costumers had to wait two years for the Gau and Heimattag.

Now 5000 traditional costumers from 48 clubs and 25 bands came to Irschenberg.

In addition, there were so many spectators.

Irschenberg – Whether it is due to the compulsory Corona break, the war in Ukraine or the climate catastrophes: the district and homeland day was tantamount to a mobilization in terms of a sense of home and community and gave impressive testimony to the cohesion in the Oberland.

A total of 47 traditional costume clubs from the districts of Miesbach, Bad Tölz/Wolfratshausen and Rosenheim took part in addition to the hosting traditional costume club Edelweiß Irschenberg, which had celebrated its 120th anniversary since Friday last week.

“The clubs turned out with more people than were reported.

Altogether there are no fewer than 5,000 people wearing traditional costume today," said district chairman Schorsch Englhart proudly.

He sees the reason for this in the unrestrained joy that after the failures in 2020 and 2021, a district festival could finally take place again.

Irschenberg: 10,000 come to Gauheimattag

d'Neureuther from Gmund was the strongest with 289 people.

As at the previous Gaufest in Waakirchen, they were able to win the costume show.

Gmund's former mayor and Neureuther honorary board member Georg von Preysing, who vigorously promoted the members in the run-up to Irschenberg, was satisfied: "We finally had to defend the title." Valley (215) and Otterfing (209) followed in place two and three.

The Irschenbergers themselves won the prize platter on Saturday at the Gauheimat evening, which was attended by 1,100 people wearing traditional costumes.

The Irschenberger Musi framed the festive service on Sunday.

After the costume show, a sea of costumers - from children to bodice girls and mischievous women to the flag bearers, minstrels, plattlers and Goasslschnalzern - lined up on the hill opposite the costume home.

In the sermon, Dean Michael Mannhardt implored them not to let anything divide them, to stick together and to preserve the community and traditions.

This is both a joy and a life's work for Oberlandler.

Using the parable of the rich grain farmer, he warned that it is not the accumulation of wealth that makes life worth living.

"What is important is cohesion and community and living tradition," said the dean.

"What matters is what stays."

Irschenberg's Mayor Klaus Meixner then asked the 5,000 costumers to line up for the parade.

The Irschenberger Trachtler and the Gauvorstand marched in front with Ilse Aigner, President of the Bundestag, Alexander Radwan, Member of the Bundestag, Jens Zangenfeind, Deputy District Administrator of Miesbach, and Josef Niedermaier, District Administrator of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen.

The train passed around 5000 spectators - including the former Federal Education Minister Anja Karliczek - on the almost one and a half kilometers up to the "Irschenberger Aussicht".

There, with a wonderful view of the Wendelstein, they turned around so that the train and the opposing train met almost along the entire length.

"It's alright!" they said when the bands or teams got together.

The first marched into the two festival tents at lunchtime, when the ones in back were just on their way.

"The Lord is a Boar", commented Schalkfrau Sonja Dirscherl from Miesbach on the perfect weather.

First it was overcast and bearable even under the long, black robes, before the sun came out after a few drops of rain, so that we could celebrate for a long time.
