New York Governor Kathy Hocoll declared a state of emergency in the state due to the continuing spread of monkeypox.
"I am declaring a disaster emergency to reinforce our ongoing efforts to tackle the outbreak of monkeypox," Hokol wrote on Twitter, noting that more than one in four cases of the disease in the United States is in New York.
According to the state health department's website, as of July 29, New York had recorded a total of 1,383 confirmed cases of monkeypox.
Medical experts warned earlier this month that the United States was at risk of losing control of the monkeypox outbreak due to the slow government response.
Last week, the World Health Organization declared the disease a global health emergency, with its highest level of preparedness.
