Deaddrop: the game that one of the biggest streamers in the world is responsible for its development (photo: official website, Midnight Society)
Over the past year, one of the biggest streamers on the web, Dr. Disrespect, who is best known as a player of battle royale games such as PUBG, Call of Duty, Apex Legends, and Fortnite, has declared that he is fed up with the existing titles on the market - and declares that he will run a new game development studio called Midnight Society
. The studio founded Dr. Disrespect together with Robert Boling, who was the community manager at Infinity Ward (one of the three developers responsible for the Call of Duty titles, and the one that first developed the brand in 2003) and Kevin Delhoyo - who worked for almost a decade at 343 Industries ( develops Halo in recent years).
The good doctor announced that the new studio's first game was codenamed "Project Moon", which would be developed as a "Triple Eye Battle Royale" game.
And if all that wasn't enough, it was also announced that Project Moon will be a game based on blockchain and NFT technologies - despite the negative reviews and decline in value over the past few months.
WATCH: First look at Deaddrop
During the last weekend the big moment arrived, and we got our first exposure to the mysterious game that also got an official name -
Deaddrop
.
An initial demo version of it is now available for free download, and players can experiment and be impressed with the results so far.
The initial demo shows us an alternate universe of Earth in a post-apocalyptic 2020 - about 40 years after a climate war left the world in ruins.
The demo shows several basic stages and the gloomy and dark atmosphere of the game, in addition to a basic shooting system, which still needs a lot of polishing.
This is an initial version of the game that has been in development for only a few months, so it is really not a coherent and complete game but only a display of capabilities.
Many players and streamers have been experimenting with the game over the past weekend.
Most praised Deaddrop for its graphics and atmosphere, noting that it was a promising start.
As of now we have not received any further details, but the developers at Midnight Society promise a grinding version like this every 6 weeks, which will be available for the players to play and watch the development progress for themselves.

The game designed to give a fight to the big companies
Dr. Disrespect's need to develop his own battle royale game came after he expressed dissatisfaction with the games offered on the market and by the big companies. He claimed that many games are released in a "broken" state and that the companies don't bother to fix the bugs and listen to the community adequately, the main one being voice-over Activision's Warzone Duty.
Another claim was that the companies' main emphasis is on the digital stores and the paid content offered to players. It can be argued that this is a kind of hypocrisy: Dr. Disrespect complained about the paid content in the games, but on the other hand, Deaddrop will support blockchain and NFT, considered by many to be a scam.
2023 will be a very critical year for the crypto and NFT field, and a number of companies have already started to take clear positions on the issue.
Just last week Mojang (developer of Minecraft) and Epic Games (developer of Fortnite) took different and opposing positions.
So it seems that the doctor chose the approach of Bender from Futurama ("I don't need you, I'll build my own park. With blackjack and ****"), but will the wait really pay off and the game will be able to be a worthy replacement that the players will embrace?
We will have to wait and wait patiently.
