Those vacations ruined by a non-renewed passport

DECRYPTION - After two years of Covid-19, requests for identity papers have exploded, and deadlines with it. Even if it means depriving some of travel this summer.


Professor of physics and chemistry in a Parisian college, Anthony wanted to present his 8-month-old baby to his family in Martinique this summer.

To get her a passport, he applied for a date in February, found a slot for May, and planned to leave in July.

But the passport never arrived and, after having decided to postpone his trip for the first time for a few hundred euros, the forties resigned himself to giving up his family vacation.

Like Anthony, this summer, many French people will give up going abroad, for lack of a passport that arrived in time.

And for good reason, every week, 115,000 new passport applications are recorded, an increase of 30% compared to 2019. Anne-Gaëlle Baudouin, director of the National Agency for Secure Documents (ANTS), recognizes that, after the confinements and with the approach of the holidays, the prefectures and town halls are facing an upsurge in requests.
