115 years ago, by a decree of December 30, 1907, Georges Clemenceau, Head of Government and Minister of the Interior, on the advice of Célestin Hennion, Director of General Security, created the regional mobile police brigades, nicknamed since “Tiger Brigades”.
The idea was simple: faced with sharply increasing delinquency and crime, which relied on technical progress such as the automobile to organize itself into networks, it was necessary to radically rethink the way the police operated French by getting rid of archaic administrative structures and procedures.
Very quickly the results are there, and they put a stop to the outbreak of crime: 2695 arrests - including 65 murderers, 7 rapists, 10 counterfeiters, 283 crooks and 193 burglars - are made in less than two years.
The modern judicial police was born, it has since asserted itself as an elite police force whose results are exemplary.
