According to a senior government official, the US has conducted a successful operation against the terrorist organization in Afghanistan.
Washington - The leader of the al-Qaeda terrorist network, Aiman al-Zawahiri, has been killed in a US anti-terrorist operation in Afghanistan.
Al-Sawahiri was killed in a targeted drone attack at a shelter in the Afghan capital Kabul over the weekend, a senior US official said.
"Over the weekend, the United States conducted an anti-terrorist operation against a key al-Qaeda target in Afghanistan," a senior government official said earlier.
"The operation was successful and there were no civilian casualties." dpa
