"I said to my husband and my family: I am at a crossroads. I can take a slightly longer road that leads me to hell. And another, shorter one, that takes me to Switzerland. second".

This was stated by Mrs. Adelina (invented name), the 69-year-old Venetian woman who asked Marco Cappato, treasurer of the Luca Coscioni Association, to accompany her to Switzerland to be able to legally access her assisted suicide.

The woman is suffering from an important irreversible lung cancer with metastases.

"I then told my husband - she continued - that if he tried to dissuade me, in a month or two, when he saw me suffering he would regret it".

Cappato reported that "it was a long journey, over eight hours from Veneto, a journey made necessary by the fact that Adelina could not have obtained this possibility in Italy, because the sentence of the Constitutional Court excludes that people who cannot be helped to die can be helped to die. are kept alive by life-sustaining treatments ".

She recalled that "Mrs. Adelina is terminally ill with cancer, she has a very short life expectancy and ever-increasing suffering, but she is not attached to a car. In the next few hours she will undergo medical examinations,

For Marco Cappato this is a new civil disobedience, since the accompanied person is not "kept alive by life-sustaining treatments", therefore he does not fall within the cases provided for by the Constitutional Court judgment 242 \ 2019 on the Cappato \ Dj Fabo case for access to assisted suicide in Italy.

"She will be free to choose until the end," said Cappato.

Retired Ms. "Adelina" is not dependent on life-sustaining treatment devices, she does not take medications, except antibiotics and painkillers as needed.

Together with her family, which she understands and respects her will, she had contacted the White Number of the Luca Coscioni Association for more information.

She aware of not having vital support, she preferred to go to Switzerland without waiting any longer.

A further wait, it is emphasized, she could, in fact, have caused further suffering and worsening given the progression of the disease already at an advanced stage.
