A patient infected with monkeypox died Monday in Peru, the first case in the country where more than 300 cases have been listed, announced a health official.
The 45-year-old man
“arrived at the hospital in very serious condition with monkeypox.
His health had weakened after abandoning his HIV treatment,”
Dos de Mayo National Hospital director Eduardo Farfan said on local radio.
This is the fifth death linked to this disease outside Africa after those recorded in Spain (two deaths), Brazil and India.
