The landing operations of the migrants arrived in Salerno aboard the Ocean Viking have ended.
From medical checks carried out in port, 50 of the 387 shipwrecked have tested positive for Covid.
Among these there are 36 men of age, 11 minors and 3 women.
A fact that had prompted the governor of Campania, Vincenzo De Luca, and the mayor of Salerno, Vincenzo Napoli, to request quarantine on board for all migrants, except for minors.
"As for the concerns related to the positives, I can assure you that the maximum attention was paid from the first moment and that they were isolated," said the prefect of Salerno, Francesco Russo, during a press meeting convened in the afternoon.
"
Screening work was carried out - he stressed - which included the swab for Covid as the first activity and those who tested positive were immediately isolated from the others and will be placed in a center where this isolation will be maintained.
Even those who either remain in our province or go to other provinces will be monitored according to the procedures precisely to prevent the spread of Covid ".
