The investigation team led by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department held its first meeting in the Red Pavilion today (1st) and inspected the scene.


The department announced in the evening that when the investigation report is not completed, it will re-examine the safety of performances at the department's performance venues, and will implement three short-term measures from tomorrow (2nd) until further notice, including the suspension of the use of Wei Ye.

The department said that the following short-term measures will be implemented from tomorrow until further notice to allow performers and staff to perform in safe conditions:

1. Require the hirer to re-examine the stage design and the mechanical devices installed by the hirer to ensure their safety to protect all staff, performers and people present;


2. Suspend the use of suspensions at high altitude for swing or rotation 3. The hirer must have the

machinery


in item (1) above checked daily by a qualified person approved by the LCSD to ensure its safety.


The department continued to state that it will send letters to renters of its venues before the end of September explaining the above short-term measures, and reminding them to abide by the relevant regulations and safety guidelines for stage safety.

The working group is led by the Assistant Director of the LCSD, Mr Lee Tsz-chun, and includes representatives from the Labour Department, the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department and the LCSD, as well as Szeto Ka-shing, a representative of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers invited by the group.

In addition, representatives of the Police Force also attended the scene to give advice on the evidence collection.

The working group also hired expert Dr. Lin Chaoxiong to assist in researching the cause of the accident.

After the working group held its first meeting today, the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Yeung Yun-hung, met with representatives from the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Labour Department, the Police Force and the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department to learn about the progress of various investigations, listen to the working group's report, and coordinate the various departments.
