The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that it had taken all necessary measures to prevent provocations along the way for the first ship laden with grain after its departure from the Ukrainian port of Odessa, heading to the Lebanese port of Tripoli.
The website of Russia Today channel quoted the head of the Russian National Defense Monitoring Center, Mikhail Mizintsev, as saying in a statement today: “The Russian Federation is taking a set of necessary measures to ensure the safety of civilian navigation and to prevent provocations along the transit route,” noting that the path agreed upon by Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the nations In the framework of the Mutual Understanding Initiative, the safe transportation of grain from Ukrainian ports includes the export of grain and fertilizer crops from three ports of Ukraine, Yuzhny, Odessa and Chornomorsk.
"69 foreign ships from 15 countries are still detained in six ports: Kherson, Nikolaev, Chernomorsk, Uchakov, Odessa and Yuzhny," Mizintsev added.
On June 8, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced his country's readiness to protect ships carrying grain sailing from the ports of Ukraine.
