A man who had set fire to his in-laws' apartment in Perpignan at the end of July surrendered and was indicted after his father-in-law's death, we learned from the Pyrenees prosecutor's office -Orientales.

On the night of July 23 to 24, this man in his thirties had started a fire in an apartment in a working-class district in the center of Perpignan, where his parents-in-law were, before fleeing.

He surrendered on Friday afternoon, we learned from a source close to the investigation.

He was presented to the investigating judge on Sunday, who indicted him for "

wilful destruction by fire resulting in death

" and "

willful violence with a weapon not resulting in incapacity for work

", specifies the Perpignan public prosecutor's office.

The suspect was detained on Sunday for these facts related to an "

intra-family conflict

", according to the same source.

The first victim, a man in his 50s, died of his burns midweek, while his 70-year-old partner remains hospitalized in serious condition.
