Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed that all countries bound by the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons have the right to obtain nuclear energy for peaceful purposes without any conditions, noting that his country is ready to provide its expertise to countries around the world in this field.
Russia's RIA Novosti news agency quoted Putin as saying at the NPT conference today that Russia, as a member of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, adheres to the letter and spirit of the Treaty and has fully fulfilled its obligations under bilateral agreements with the United States on the control of nuclear weapons, pointing out that his country defends Equal and indivisible security for all members of the international community.
For more than half a century, Putin added, the Treaty has become one of the main elements of the international system of security and strategic stability, noting that the obligations envisaged by the Treaty in the areas of non-proliferation, disarmament and the peaceful use of nuclear energy fully meet the interests of all nuclear and non-nuclear states.
Putin stressed that there is no victor in any nuclear war, stressing in this regard the need to prevent its unleashed.
