However, the inspection team found deficiencies in the work of the police in relation to the use of wiretapping

No indication was found that the Israel Police made intrusion into mobile phones using the Pegasus software without a judicial warrant

- this is what the inspection team regarding the wiretapping of communications between computers, headed by Deputy Legal Advisor to the Government Amit Marari, stated today (Monday).

However, the inspection team found deficiencies in the work of the Israel Police in relation to the use of wiretapping devices.

The inspection team's report shows that over the years the decision makers in the Israel Police did not attribute the full significance required to the scope of the potential capabilities of the system used to listen to communications between computers.

It was found that prohibited materials were received from mobile phones into the police systems, even though the system was activated after obtaining judicial orders.

This is because the systems were not technologically adapted to the powers of the police.

Although, according to police procedures, these prohibited substances must not be used, there is actually an exception to their authority.

The Israel Police stated: "The police received the report of the Marari Committee, which is the product of a very thorough examination carried out by a team of the Ministry of Justice and technological experts led by the Deputy Legal Adviser to the Government, lawyer Amit Marari.

The report clearly shows that, contrary to the false publications, the use of the technological capabilities of the Israel Police was solely for the purpose of preventing and detecting serious crimes, and subject to court orders and that no intentional activity was done in violation of the law.

The report states that the Israel Police acted in all cases subject to court orders. There was no spying on citizens, no "extraction" of cellular devices, the claims against the police regarding the published list of individuals were refuted. There was no employment of hackers, or experts in the field Contrary to the procedures, no use was made of the materials downloaded due to the technological bug in the system.

The police officers in the cyber system did not make any use of them, and certainly the investigating unit did not receive them and was not aware of them at all.

What were serious allegations against the conduct of the police, turned out to be wrong, but unfortunately they caused great damage to the public's trust in the police and we are obliged to act to restore them.

The discrepancies that arise in the report will be fully addressed by a team that the commissioner ordered to be established headed by the deputy head of the police, in order to implement the report's recommendations, and to make the necessary adjustments to return the use of technological capabilities to fight crime as the report's conclusions allow - returning The technological capabilities of the Israel Police.

We see this as proof that the Israel Police acted with integrity, in accordance with procedures and strict supervision when before our eyes the fight against crime and criminals and maintaining the safety of the public.
