Dießen – On Sunday it will be decided whether the market town can expand the makeshift car park on Rotter Straße near Marienmünster as planned.

Dießener are called to a citizens' initiative, which should prevent the expansion.

On the same ballot paper, however, they also have the opportunity to put their crosses in favor of the expansion if the Council requests the opposite.

The "citizens' initiative against surface sealing" got the ball rolling, to which the federal government for nature conservation, local history association, youth advisory board, climate lobby, DAV section Ammersee and the Wednesday disco belong. The initiative fights against "sealing of the Rotter meadow with concrete or asphalt" and does not want any nighttime Lighting "that harms insects and wastes energy and money".

In addition, those fighting against the expansion want the planned 760,000 euros to be spent on "more meaningful projects."

So far, the initiative has shown itself to be unreasonable against all arguments put forward by the municipality.

At the citizens' meetings, a special event, information stands and a lavish direct mailing, Mayor Sandra Perzul and local councilors - with the exception of the Greens, who voted against - objectively explained the need to expand the parking lot.

The "meadow that it used to be" is only 34 percent sealed.

In addition, trees, shrubs and flowering areas are planted, which ensure better biodiversity.

In addition, variously planted seepage troughs have a positive effect on the local climate.

According to a statement by the Technical University of Munich, "the grass pavers on the parking spaces, as a tool for water-conscious planning, also contribute to increasing evaporation and thus to cooling the urban space."

In addition, the municipal councils made it clear that almost half of the total costs of around 760,000 euros are needed for the urgently needed drainage systems alone.

E-charging stations, bicycle racks and a crossing island over Rotter Straße ensure attractiveness according to the motto "Park & Walk" or "Park & Ride".

Finally, a decisive advantage is the year-round use of the parking lot.

Peter Bierl, spokesman for the parking lot opponents, invites you to a final rally in the lake facilities on Friday, August 5th at 5 p.m.

Musician Hans Well from the “Wellpappn” will also perform here.

He agrees with Bierl's opinion that the expansion is nonsensical in terms of transport policy.

Nobody will park on Rotter Straße to stroll to the lake.

Because of the sealing, the expansion was "the absolutely wrong signal in our times."

Michael Hofmann, who represents the Bavarian party in the municipal council, is again upset by the demands of the initiative: "It must not be that a loudly screaming minority wants to reverse the decisions of the municipal council elected by the majority of the citizens." He does not want to allow that a culture of prohibition and prescribing is moving in in Dießen.

Behind the referendum are “the same comrades who want to dictate how we speak, write, what we eat and what means we should use to get around.”

One consolation remains Michael Hofmann, should the initiative prevail with its referendum: According to the law, the market community is only bound to the result for one year.

After that, the planning could continue.
