The Lenggries fire brigade has now made up for the celebratory evening for its 150th anniversary with a year delay.

Lenggries – The festival should actually have been in the past year.

But Corona made it impossible to celebrate.

But now the Lenggrieser fire brigade made up for the 150th birthday party in the Alpenfestsaal.

Next Sunday, August 7th, the festival day with church service and procession is on the program.

116 active people manage 60 to 70 operations per year

Board member Josef Willibald welcomed the numerous guests of honor, who was also pleased "to finally be able to hold the festive evening".

Commander Hans Willibald briefly looked back at all his predecessors in office, but then drew a picture of the current challenges facing the Weir with its 116 active members.

50 to 60 operations are to be completed each year - "from the cat in the tree to people searches, flood operations to serious accidents and major fires," he pointed out.

Together with the district fire brigade, "great youth work is done"

6,000 to 8,000 hours of volunteer work come together every year.

Willibald is particularly pleased that there is no lack of young people, "because without our young people it would not go on".

Together with the six district fire brigades, “great youth work was done, and we have plenty of young people.

We can be proud of that.” Willibald's thanks also go to the community, which is investing in equipment and vehicles for the fire brigades.

"We really appreciate that you take the fire department so seriously."

Volunteer fire brigade: The largest citizens' initiative in the country

The other speeches were also characterized by thanks - for the great commitment of the fire brigade.

There are over 400 active people in the entire municipality, reminded former mayor Werner Weindl, who had taken over the patronage of the anniversary.

Sometimes it is said that the fire brigade is "the largest citizens' initiative in the country.

However, she is not against something that is modern today, but for something: namely for serving others, for helping people in emergency situations," said Weindl.

This "selfless behavior", which often involves risking one's own health and even one's own life, "has not changed at all in the past 150 years and hopefully never will."

On the other hand, people's sense of entitlement is growing, "who easily overlook

Challenges are becoming increasingly complex

District Administrator Josef Niedermaier also responded to this.

In the meantime, for many, it is “a damned matter of course that someone will be there at a precisely prescribed time and do the right thing in an emergency”.

The challenges and operations that fire departments have to master have become increasingly complex.

That also applies to training.

"You have to take your hat off to anyone who does it," said Niedermaier.

For the next 150 years, the district administrator wished the fire brigade such good cohesion, "a prosperous development, always the right decisions, a community that is benevolent towards the fire brigade and the most important thing: that you come home healthy from every mission."

"An association can only survive 150 years if everyone sticks together"

Mayor Stefan Klaffenbacher made it clear that there was no lack of support from the community.

"Fire brigades need up-to-date equipment." Among other things, the municipality is currently buying new helmets and operational clothing for all seven fire departments.

Investments are also being made in a hose care system.

The cooperation between the fire services is exemplary, praised Klaffenbacher.

"An association can only last 150 years if everyone sticks together and there are many volunteers who get involved.

You can proudly look back on this long past.” Thanks to the excellent youth work, he is not worried about the future either.

"Keep up the good work, then nothing can happen to us."

Demands on the fire brigade have “changed enormously”

District Fire Councilor Erich Zengerle also spoke about the constantly changing demands on the military.

When it was founded 150 years ago, it was only about extinguishing fires.

"That has changed enormously." Today, everything has to be mastered - from assistance in the event of accidents to humanitarian operations, according to Zengerle.

And here you can always rely on the Lenggrieser fire brigade.

"Thank you for your great and selfless work."

The evening was musically framed by the Sunnseitn Tanzlmusi.

There was also a one-act play about the history of the Lenggries fire department: Walter Biagini played the grandfather whose grandson (Florian Willibald) had many questions about the fire department.

Feast Day:

The Feast Day begins on Sunday, August 7, at 8:45 a.m. at the train station with the line-up for the church procession.

At the festival service at 9.30 a.m. in the Kurgarten, the procession into the beer tent concludes.
