Kentucky Governor Andy Bashir announced today that the floods that swept the east of the state due to heavy rains have killed 37 people, warning that more dangerous conditions are approaching.
Reuters quoted Bashir as saying today that 37 people, including four children, have died in the floods, and that sporadic floods and devastating winds are likely, with more dangerous conditions approaching, while the authorities continue to work to rescue residents and provide food and shelter for thousands of displaced people.
A company that monitors power outages indicated that more than 15,000 cases of power outages were reported in the state yesterday.
The floods are the second major disaster to hit the state of Kentucky in seven months after several hurricanes that killed nearly 60 people last December.
