The areas located in the eastern Mediterranean are affected by a hot semi-tropical air mass, starting from tomorrow, Wednesday, and continuing until next Monday, accompanied by an extension of the Indian seasonal depression that will lead to a rise in temperatures.

Meteorologist Kenaz Kiwan said in a statement to SANA that this rise is a heat wave that naturally affects the eastern Mediterranean regions during the fifties, accompanied by a rise in surface humidity, especially in the western regions, as a result of the western surface currents.

Kiwan pointed out that during the mentioned period, temperatures are expected to exceed their averages from 5 to 8 degrees Celsius to touch the 43 degrees in Damascus and the interior regions and 48 degrees in the eastern and Badia regions, indicating that the peak of the rise will be during the coming Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

As for the coastal areas, Kiwan explained that the high humidity and heat increase the perceived temperature, which touches 39 degrees in those areas and that the sea water temperature reaches 30 degrees and the wave height is light, while the weather in the eastern and Badia regions is very hot while it is relatively hot in mountainous areas.

Kiwan added that the intensity of the wave is expected to end starting next Monday, as the temperature will decrease while remaining 3 to 5 degrees higher than its average, while the surface humidity will be high, which increases the feeling of heat and distress.

Kiwan warned against direct exposure to sunlight, especially during peak hours between 11 am and 4 pm, and called for not leaving flammable materials in confined and closed places directly exposed to sunlight and paying close attention while dealing with fire, especially in forestry and agricultural areas.

He also warned of the low level of horizontal visibility in the eastern and Badia regions as a result of the misty atmosphere there.
