A parting gift: Kochavi intends to publish his book soon and distribute it to IDF officers | Israel Hayom

The Chief of Staff who will finish his term already asked to publish the book last year but did not receive the approval of the Committee of Ministers • Now Kochavi will define the book, which will be printed at the expense of the army, as a "training booklet" - thus he will not need the approval of the ministers • The move provoked a visit to the IDF : "This is a waste of public money"

The Chief of Staff, Aviv Kochavi, intends to soon publish the book he wrote, and some of it to IDF officers.

The publication arouses internal criticism in the IDF, and it is claimed that "this is a waste of public money", which was done "as part of building the legacy of the Chief of Staff".

Kochavi planned to publish the book already last year.

He even submitted a copy of it to the ministerial committee that approves publications by senior public servants, but withdrew it after the issue was published by "Kaan" reporter Gili Cohen.

The IDF then claimed that the book had not been edited, and that it was not at all clear if and when it would be published.

However, it now turns out that Kochavi plans to publish the book in the near future, in preparation for the Tishrei holidays, even before he finishes his position as Chief of Staff on January 1 next year. The book will be printed at the expense of the IDF and will be distributed to all commanders, apparently from the level of company commanders and above.

The fact that the book will be published within the IDF and distributed to its commanders spares Kochavi the need to obtain the approval of the Committee of Ministers, which it is doubtful would have been given to a senior public servant like him. as an "instruction booklet", which includes things written by Kochavi during his 40 years of service. This, despite Kochavi himself saying last year that this is a book that was mostly written during his years as Chief of Staff, and deals with leadership and military command.

The intended book arouses internal criticism in the IDF. "Kochavi could have waited for release, then write a book," said a senior official.

It looks like an attempt to shape a legacy by force." Another source wondered, "Who approved the publication that involves editing and printing a book in many thousands of copies," and "Why does the Chief of Staff act in secret - a year after he shelved the book, he rushes to publish it suddenly just before that he finishes his duty."

Kochavi is one of the most well-educated and thorough officers who have served in the IDF in recent decades. The fact that he wrote the book is not surprising: he used to write in all his positions, and involve his subordinates in his thoughts. It seems that this is what he wants to do even now, but as happened many times during his tenure - the way he acts arouses a lot of criticism towards him.

The IDF spokesman's response: "The manuscript is in the final stages of editing, and will be distributed to IDF officers in the coming weeks. The manuscript is a training book on military command topics, which deals with military leadership, motivating people and nurturing them. The manuscript is based on lectures, conversations and commander's pages written by the General Staff "For throughout his 40 years of service".
