To relieve the pressure on shelters and offer abandoned animals a better living comfort, many associations and shelters recruit foster families.
The principle is simple: take care of an animal, at home, until its final adoption.
Everywhere in France, organizations have adopted this operation: Le Chat libre in Toulouse, Solidarité 4 pattes in Bordeaux, Sans croquettes fixes in Lyon… Since December 2021, host families have even had legal recognition as
“natural person welcoming at home, without transfer of ownership, a domestic pet entrusted by a shelter or an association”.
A hard core of ten families
The Kit Cat association, in Hauts-de-Seine, works exclusively with volunteer families.
“We want to keep a family spirit.
It's much warmer for an animal to evolve within a family than in a box,”
say the two founders, Zoé Serero and Mélissa Escoubes.
