The death of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, killed by an American strike on his balcony in Kabul on Sunday morning, was announced by Joe Biden from that of the White House Monday evening in Washington.
“Justice has been done,
” said the American president in his speech.
This terrorist leader is no more, and people around the world no longer have to fear this vicious and relentless assassin.”
Biden recalled that Ayman al-Zawahiri had been bin Laden's right-hand man, and one of the organizers of the September 11, 2001 attacks
"which murdered 2,977 people on American soil".
The president also cited other attacks in which Zawahiri had participated.
“For decades, he was the mastermind of other attacks…In particular the attack on the destroyer USS Cole in 2000”,
which severely damaged the building in the port of Aden, and killed 17 American sailors.
