A café in Lower Saxony no longer wants to let children under the age of 10 in.
This causes a lot of trouble – but there is also understanding.
Esens - No admission for children under 10 years: A café in East Frisian Esens (Wittmund district) no longer wants to serve small children.
This caused a lot of trouble in the small town on the North Sea in Lower Saxony, reports the
NDR
.
It was a scene ten days ago that made the camel overflow, writes kreiszeitung.de: A child kept jumping down the stairs from his father's neck.
When the father then said that nothing had happened after all, it was enough for the operator.
He closed his café without further ado – although guests were still present.

Since then, children are only allowed to stay on the terrace on the street.
Because parents have to take care of them.
According to the operator, he has nothing against children – on the contrary.
What would bother him would be the parents not properly supervising their children.
According to Erich Wagner, children should only be allowed in as a last resort.
Wagner is the East Friesland boss of the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) Lower Saxony.
He says it must be the maxim that the whole family is entertained together.
Café excludes children: understanding for the operator
But it is becoming increasingly common for parents not to pay attention to their children.
This leads to the children getting bored and making themselves self-employed in the restaurant.
That could then in turn have dangerous consequences, said Wagner to the
NDR
.
Even the already thinned out service staff would react increasingly annoyed and ask the boss to do something about the children's chaos.
Many shops now offer play corners or at least crayons.
Wagner also expressed understanding for the café operator in Esens.
Child Protection Association: Exclusion of children is discriminatory
The child protection association sees it differently: the operator's decision not to let children in is problematic.
According to the Schutzbund, children are part of society.
The exclusion of children is not discriminatory only if the business has major safety concerns or presents a clear concept as a café for the elderly or those seeking peace and quiet.

According to NDR
, the reactions in Esens were
mixed – some of the guests reacted with understanding, others were upset about the new rule.
Café in Lower Saxony no longer lets children under the age of 10 in: Not the first
The café in Esens is not the only establishment that no longer lets children in: the little ones also have to stay outside at the “Schipperhus” restaurant on the Baltic Sea.
There it also says: "The parents are to blame." And also on Rügen, the decision of the Baltic Sea restaurant "Omas Küche" not to let anyone under the age of 14 in in the future caused heated discussions.
