Consumers will soon have to face higher costs because of the gas surcharge.
A sample invoice shows how many more singles, couples and families will have to pay from autumn.
Munich – The gas crisis is not only causing a tense atmosphere in politics.
The energy crisis should also soon make itself felt among German consumers.
In addition to the gas prices, which are already rising, there will also be the so-called gas levy from autumn.
The surcharge is intended to benefit gas suppliers such as Uniper, who have to buy replacement gas from Russia at high prices.
Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) had already announced that consumers could face additional costs of several hundred euros.
However, he did not give an exact number of how high the state levy should be.
However, it should be a maximum of five cents per kilowatt hour.
Gas surcharge: Singles, couples and families have to pay that much
The comparison
portal Check24
has calculated how high the additional costs would be for five different model households.
In the table below you can read the results for different amounts of the gas surcharge.
A sample single household would therefore have to reckon with additional costs of around 298 euros at most.
For a family of four, on the other hand, it is already 1190 euros with a five-cent surcharge.
So one thing is clear: Despite already high inflation, consumers will face even more costs.

Gas prices continue to rise: discounts three to five times higher
But that's not all.
Because the rising gas prices in wholesale should also affect the discounts of consumers.
"When the energy suppliers procured before the crisis have been used up, they will have to buy on the exchange at the current record prices," says Billy Scheufler, Managing Director of Energie

.
"The annual accounts and thus the deductions could then increase by three to five times."

In July 2021, a model household with a gas consumption of 20,000 kWh paid around 1,301 euros a year.
Due to the increased prices, however, the average in July 2022 was already 3415 euros.
This corresponds to an increase of 162 percent over the previous year.
If you then add the gas surcharge of five cents, the average would even be 4,605 euros – ie 254 percent more than in the previous year.
