A hydrofoil bound for Ischia struck the San Vincenzo pier in the port of Naples a few minutes after departure and in the collision, according to what has been learned, several passengers were injured, but none were seriously injured.
The City of Forio had left its moorings at Molo Beverello at 12.10 headed for Ischia Porto and Forio with about 100 passengers on board and, for reasons yet to be ascertained, while it was still inside the port of Naples, it suddenly veered to the right ending up bumping into the San Vincenzo docks.
The single-hulled vehicle is not in danger of sinking, but the collision caused fear on board.
Rescuers arrived on the spot shortly after, first of all the Coast Guard intervened by sea with some patrol boats.
Later the 118 ambulances also arrived. The area is in fact closed to the public as it is a military property;
passengers are currently assisted and will be transferred by bus to Beverello to resume the journey to Ischia.
The City of Forio is still stationary at the point where it impacted, not far from the lighthouse that distinguishes the western breakwater of the Neapolitan landing.
