The MurNow Festival takes place on August 6th in the Murnau Kulturpark - this time without restrictions.

A dozen music acts and much more are on the program.

Murnau

- "Free and outside" is emblazoned on the flyer.

This is what the MurNow Festival stands for.

In fact, a third component could also be included in the definition: together.

On Saturday, August 6th, the music festival enriches the culture park again and everyone should feel invited.

There are no borders, only last year there were clearly visible ones: site fences.

Only a limited number of visitors were allowed on the grounds of the Kulturpark.

But this year, this year everything is completely open again.

When Nikolaus Gerold sits at the presentation of the program in Murnau town hall - the market town is the organizer and thus the sponsor - he emphasizes right from the start that a "really good program has been put together".

Not just musically.

Of course, the tones and sounds take up a lot of space.

"Consistently top-class musicians and bands from Murnau and the surrounding area" or those who have "interesting connections" to the place, says the artistic director - "Murnau as a hub".

What does such an interesting connection look like?

An example: The singer of a band did his military service here, reports Gerold.

The band's repertoire even includes a song about Murnau.

Offset meadow stage

A dozen music acts on two stages, the music shell and a meadow stage, are on the program.

The Wiesenbühne wants to be moved a bit this year, the stands and the market moved up a bit, explains Gerold, for the sake of optimisation.

So the stage is no longer so close to the grill of the traditional costume association.

The artistic director jokes that the smoke from the sizzling sausages on stage was effective.

Newcomers such as Christoph Himmelfahrt, Michael Hülskötter and Sunstate of Mind will take to the stage.

Also: the Ro Clausman Trio, Williams Wetsox, Optimal Standard, Kopfeck, The Mains, The Hamburg Hot Club, Die Zeitzeugen and Bison.

The Kurzweil Orchestra is responsible for the grand finale.

MakerLab is also on site

The market and the stalls offer culinary delights, including Syrian specialities, Bavarian sausages and coffee and cake from the Murnau secondary school.

But there is also information and campaigns, for example at the Foodsharing initiative, which gives away "saved ice cream", says Gerold, at the MakerLab, which will be represented with a "Mega-Strickliesl" and a lathe, and at the Benediktbeurer Center for Cultural and Environment that sets up a "digital scavenger hunt".

It will not be digital, but very haptic at the art mediation stand of the Castle Museum.

A community work of art is to be created there in which everyone can participate.

"Art can and may do everything," says City Hall spokeswoman Annika Röttinger.

The market community bears the costs for the festival.

"We pay," says Alexandra Thoni, head of the tourist information.

And "that's a good thing," explains Veronika Jones-Gilch, MurNow co-initiator and local councilor for the Greens.

Such a festival, "outside, for free, easily accessible", accessible to everyone, intended for all age groups, is ultimately also a socio-political task.

Art is nothing without people, and people are nothing without art, Jones believes.

In 2021, a maximum of 1000 people were allowed on the site due to corona-related restrictions.

Back then, the free tickets were quickly sold out and some visitors had to be turned away.

Therefore, Gerold is confident that this year, tickets are no longer needed, “definitely 1000 people”, maybe 1500.

At a glance

The festival starts on August 6th at 2 p.m. in the Kulturpark.

The lights and amplifiers go out at 11pm.

Admission is free as usual.

Further information on the entire program is available online on the MurNow Instagram channel and at www.murnau.de.
