The Bundeswehr acquires the insolvent MV Werften.

A huge repair area for the Navy's frigates and corvettes is now to be built in Rostock-Warnemünde.

Munich/Rostock - The traffic light federal government made up of SPD, Greens and FDP is getting to work on putting the 100 billion euro special fund for the German armed forces into practice.

On Monday, August 1, the federal government took over the former site of the MV shipyards in Rostock-Warnemünde for the Navy as planned.

The budget committee of the Bundestag had previously approved the purchase of the site for around 87 million euros.

In the future, the frigates and corvettes of the German Navy are to be serviced in the huge workshops and docks on the Baltic Sea in order to better and more effectively meet the requirements of the transatlantic defense alliance NATO.

The naval base "Hohe Düne" is within sight, which makes the distances very short.

At the beginning of July, Federal Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD) said: “Lack of capacity and long idle times should now be a thing of the past.

With the acquisition, I see a great opportunity to significantly increase operational readiness for the marine sector."

money is available.

As part of the Bundeswehr special fund in response to the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, a confidential document for the German Bundestag was leaked, from which the AFP news agency, among others, quoted.

According to this, 19.3 billion euros of additional investments are planned for the navy.

The ship stock of the German Navy is to be considerably expanded and overhauled.

As reported by NDR Schleswig-Holstein, the money is to be used, among other things, to purchase five more K-130 corvettes.

In addition, two more F126 frigates are to be procured.

The new naval ships should be ready for the Bundeswehr by 2028 - and then serviced in Warnemünde.

MV Werften: The cruise ship giant from Rostock went bankrupt - now the Bundeswehr is coming

The shipbuilding group MV Werften filed for bankruptcy there at the beginning of the year after travel with cruise ships had suddenly collapsed due to the corona pandemic.

At least 500 of the former 1,900 employees are to be taken on at the new Bundeswehr repair site.

According to IG Metall, the first trainees at MV Werften already have the Navy as a new employer.

Frigate 126

The frigate 126 is an armament project of the Bundeswehr for the German Navy.

Around 5.27 billion euros had been estimated for the procurement of four ships by 2028.

According to NDR, after the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war, two more frigates are planned as part of the NATO alliance.

Each of the frigates is said to have a crew of 114 soldiers.

The powerful ship types should be able to fight targets in the air, above and below water, and to carry out landing missions.

In addition, a third of the 65-hectare site is to be used privately, for example for the construction of offshore platforms.

"I think it's a very good day, especially for the local people, including for the Federal Republic of Germany.

It's a great solution and above all offers a long-term perspective.

I'm very happy with the result," Christoph Morgen, the insolvency administrator at MV Werften, told ZDF.

MV shipyards in Rostock: Employees benefit from the Bundeswehr special fund

Said employees on site in Rostock are now benefiting from the Bundeswehr special fund, which was at times hotly debated in parliament in Berlin between the traffic light government and the CDU/CSU opposition.
