26 women and men received their diplomas from the Penzberg vocational school for geriatric care and geriatric care assistance.

"You certainly don't have to worry about finding a job," said Deputy Mayor Markus Bocksberger.

"They are a coveted target group," confirmed Deacon Christian Oerthel.

Penzberg – Ten men and women completed their three-year apprenticeship as geriatric nurses at the Penzberg vocational school on the grounds of the “Steigenberger Hof” old people’s home.

The three with the best grades were also honored at the ceremony: Martina Heimisch and Carola Wiener (1.2 each) and Lisa-Marie Ladurner (1.3).

Another 16 graduates also completed their one-year training as nursing assistants.

Last year in geriatric nursing training - now the "generalists" are coming

"An era is coming to an end," said headmaster Stephan Meuß at the ceremony.

What was meant by this was the three-year geriatric nursing training.

The current year was the last according to the old training concept.

In 2023, the first "generalist" year will receive its certificates, in which no distinction is made between nursing, nursing for the elderly and children.

But another era ended: It was the last certificate given by Stephan Meuß, who switched to the specialist academy of the Rummelsberger Diakonie, the sponsor of the Penzberg vocational school.

According to Deacon Christian Oerthel from the Rummelsberger Diakonie, he "designed his task with a lot of passion and competence".

"I take my hat off to you with respect"

Meuß said to the graduates that the most important thing was not the grades, but the "inner performance" - for example taking the next step, even if the luggage is heavy.

The graduates have also proven that they can adapt to new situations.

You need a lot of empathy for this job, it is physically and mentally demanding, said Deputy Mayor Markus Bocksberger.

"I take my hat off to you with respect." In view of the lack of nursing staff, they need not worry whether they will find a job.

Renate Janker from the team of trainers put it vividly: After their hike, the graduates are now in excellent condition and are faced with a network of opportunities.
