The Palzing volunteer fire brigade has taken stock.

And one innovation in particular makes those responsible happy: finally a female member could be welcomed.

Palzing

– Especially in the club life of the Palzing volunteer fire brigade, things got quiet during the Corona years.

"There was nothing ahead and nothing more behind," summarized the first commander of the Palzinger fire brigade, Martin Ball, the difficult time at the annual general meeting last Wednesday.

During the pandemic, however, there was also a premiere for the Florian disciples: for the first time in their history, a woman is on board.

But what about the assignments for the Palzinger Floriansjünger in the past two years?

Ball provided information: In 2020 they were called 22 times, a year later "only" twelve times and this year there have been two alarms so far.

The balance of the hours that add up from assignments, exercises, meetings, club work and much more: In 2020, the active volunteers volunteered around 1029 hours, in 2021 it was 992 hours.

The large-scale operation due to Hurricane Sabine is particularly memorable, as is the exhausting continuous operation due to fallen trees or covered roofs, for example.

"There was a lot going on there," Ball said in retrospect.

What was also remembered: just on the day when the firefighters wanted to "smartly" inaugurate the new team vehicle that they had received from Zolling, suddenly nothing worked anymore due to the lockdown that had been declared - bought snacks or not.

At the club itself, as secretary Harald Schmid then explained in more detail, at times almost nothing worked, and even the traditional Christmas tree auction was carried out digitally.

While the Corona years were quite bitter for FFW Palzing, club life picked up again more clearly and faster this year.

City cycling, putting up the maypole with a big celebration, participation in the Zolling citizen festival and much more have been on the program so far.

For Ball, who is not only commander, but also chairman of the club, the huge upswing is "not always nice" because he currently has a lot to do.

Praise from district fire inspector Helmut Baur

District fire inspector Helmut Baur praised the extraordinarily good team spirit of the Palzinger comrades, which was anything but a matter of course - especially because the "fun" had suffered a lot from Corona.

What also pleased Baur is the fact that all firefighters are still there: "Other fire departments have a turnover like the church."

Mayor Priller praises the good cooperation between the fire brigade and the community

Mayor Helmut Priller was also enthusiastic: "The communication between the fire brigade and the municipality is excellent - we simply have a good connection." For Priller, it is particularly important that the helpers do not lack for anything when they "have people out in the middle of the night pull the car".

Despite the pandemic and restrictions, there was a pleasant surprise in Palzing two years ago, because for the first time in the history of the local Florian's disciples, a young woman is now on board.

14-year-old Isabella Ball decided to volunteer in 2020 and is still enthusiastic about it.

Daughter of the commander the first female member of the FFW Palzing

Why did she join the fire department?

"Because my dad is commander, I've always been there before - and I liked that." She is currently affiliated with the youth fire brigade in Zolling, but she will only be able to take part in the first simple operations in two years.

Her wish: "More women in the Palzinger fire brigade!" Her goal: "At some point I might want to take over my dad's position."
