Arizona holds primary elections next Tuesday, August 2, a contest in which seats in Congress will be disputed, as well as the governorship of the state and other positions in local offices.

Here, everything you need to know about the primaries in Arizona that will define the state representatives for the general election on November 8.

What is voted on in the Arizona primary?

The primaries serve to define the candidates of each party (Democratic and Republican) who will be on the electoral ballot and will represent Arizona in the general elections on November 8.

In state primaries there are races for the US Senate and House of Representatives, governor, secretary of state, attorney general, treasurer, superintendent of public instruction, corporation commission and inspector of mines.

For the

Senate

there is one seat in dispute, which is currently held by Democrat Mike Kelly who, in turn, is running for re-election.

In addition to Kelly, four other Republican candidates will be on the ballot: Blake Masters, Mark Brnovich, Jim Lamon, Michael McGuire.

How to vote and where to vote in the Arizona primary?

There are several options to vote in the Arizona primary election: either by mail or in person.

Please note that if you are affiliated with a political party, you will only be able to vote in that party's primary and your ballot will be cast automatically.

Also, you should know that if you are an independent voter you will be able to participate since Arizona has open primary elections.

Vote by Mail:

All registered voters can request a ballot by mail and vote from home.

You must apply by 5 pm on Friday, July 22 for the primary and by Friday, October 28 for the general election.

In- Person Early Voting:

All counties offer in-person early voting options for both elections beginning 27 days in advance.

For the primaries, they were able to do so from Wednesday, July 6, to Friday, July 29.

For the general ones, from Wednesday, October 12 and until Friday, November 4.

Voting in person on Election Day:

If you prefer to vote in person on Election Day (the state primary is August 2) you will be able to go to an assigned vote center where your ballot will be delivered to you.

In certain counties there are polling places where anyone can go and receive a ballot to vote.

The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
