Rocket fire over the Taiwan Straits.
These shots are from the weekend.
In the strait that separates Taiwan from the Chinese mainland, the Chinese navy practiced on Saturday – with live ammunition.
Tensions between the democratic island state of Taiwan and its large neighbor have increased since it became known that US politician Nancy Pelosi also wanted to visit Taiwan on her trip to Asia.
China does not recognize its independence.
Bernhard Zand, DER SPIEGEL, Taipei:
»In general, Ms. Pelosi's visit here is a major political issue, but not one that would completely divide society or tear families apart.
The government itself, President Tsai Ing-wen, is extremely reticent and hasn't made anything really clear, no concrete statement up to now, which is a sign of how delicate the mood is at the moment and what the possible consequences of the visit are from Ms. Pelosi in Taiwan internationally."
The Chinese regime has repeatedly made it clear that it sees the visit of the US House of Representatives as a provocation - which must have consequences.
Zhang Jun, China's UN ambassador:
"It is legitimate for the Chinese government, the Chinese military to do whatever is necessary to stop Taiwan from going further in the wrong direction, i.e. towards independence."
In reports on state television, Beijing tries to convey that this "everything" could also be a war.
Chinese warplanes were spotted near the Taiwan Strait border on Tuesday morning.
According to the Reuters agency, Chinese warships are also patrolling there.
An employee of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs also published this propaganda video on Twitter.
One is prepared for everything, he wrote.
You can also see the storming of beaches, as would be necessary for an invasion of Taiwan.
